ACTIVITY
Count to 20 Challenge
Size: Full class
Time: 5 - 7 mins
Students stand around the class or remain seated in their chairs.
Start by saying "All you have to do is count to 20 as a class. I'll give you 3 attempts and then I (the teacher) is declared the winner of the game."
Make up some tale about 'only one class ever being able to defeat you in all your time playing it...' This will generate enthusiasm and healthy competition which inturn, makes it harder for them to suceed!
RULES
No student can say two numbers in a row.
No system or order can be implemented (class list, alphabetical, pointing to others etc) The game must remain random.
Repeat the game as many times as you can, until they figure out that the slower the team works, the more chance they will suceed.

- The teacher points to a student who says "ONE" out loud. The rest of the class stays silent.
- Any other student can then say "TWO" at random. Another student - "THREE" and so on..
- As soon as two students say the same number at the same time - the teacher places a strike on the board and the class goes back to the start.
- Three strikes and the class loses!
Repeat the game as many times as you can, until they figure out that the slower the team works, the more chance they will suceed.
